The Kona Kai hotel is a waterfront hotel located on Shelter Island with view rooms across the bay and “non-view” rooms into the harbor full of sailing boats.
The Kona Kai has a very good courtesy shuttle, so you might not need to rent a car. The Kona Kai Resort is on the Old Town Trolley Tour Stop for convenient travel around San Diego, California. There is also water taxi service to Coronado Island, Seaport village and Downtown Gaslamp District. Check out their live webcam!
Click here to make reservations online or call (800) 566-2524 and mention the San Diego Tango Festival.
We have secured rooms at the hotel next door to the Kona Kai, The Best Western Plus Island Palms Hotel & Marina. They are located just at the end of the Kona Kai’s Parking lot, putting them within walking distance of the Kona Kai. You can call 619-222-0561 and tell them that you are with the “Tango Group” for a discount rate.
The Best Western has poolside fireplace, free parking and complimentary bike rentals! (Bicycling is a GREAT way to get to lunch or see beautiful Shelter Island!) Be sure to tell them you want to be in the side of the hotel nearer to the Kona Kai for a very close walk! Check out our map page to see how close the hotels are!
The Bay Club hotel which is beautiful and within walking distance from the festival has offered us a few rooms at a discount with a complimentary breakfast. Parking is $5 only. Their reservations number is 800-672-0800
Humphrey’s Half Moon Inn is a great hotel within a walk from the festival is offering discounted rooms from Jan 1st-5th. No discount New Years Eve (sorry). It is a beautiful property with a good restaurant and nice amenities as well.
Southwest and JetBlue serve San Diego, but travel web sites do not have flight information for these airlines. You might find a better rate going to these airlines’ web sites than you can on travel web sites.
The resort is just a 10 minute ride from the airport by taxi or hotel shuttle. Call the hotel you are staying at and ask if a shuttle is available.
